Natural Crown

Natural Crown encapsulates the intricacies of identity, self-worth, and memories of our natural crown. It is an exploration of hair memories and the value hair holds for each individual. Our hair is an expression of our individuality and an extension of our culture. While hair can serve as a physical representation of who we are, hair quality, style, or color cannot signal whether one is a worthy person, or if they have more integrity. This is a deeply personal project that not only reveals the highs and lows of my curly hair journey but also the hair journey’s that my fellow dancers have experienced. Natural Crown is a multi-dimensional work that celebrates the beauty of our natural crown, while simultaneously changing the narrative that our crown alone defines who we are in the world.
